Last week, All Things Decontamination’s training centre played host to a free event for decontamination teams from across North East England and Cumbria representing several of the largest NHS Trusts in the region. These dedicated professionals have limited opportunities to meet with colleagues from other Trusts so the invitation to meet was warmly received!
The day was an opportunity for NHS colleagues to share challenges and pain points in a safe, confidential space focused on possible innovations and adjustments that could bring about solutions. ATD’s Tony Sullivan facilitated the discussion and it was fascinating to see just how similar the challenges were from one Trust to another. Several recurring themes were identified, before the group honed in on several key challenges. Quite often, there was opportunity for teams to learn from each other and share experiences that could go on to inform others better in future.
The day was kindly co-hosted by Joy Markey and her team from Steris UK, who provided much needed refreshments as well as a fresh perspective from industry. As is often the case, that dialogue between provider and end user proved crucial in getting to the bottom of common issues.
The day was rated a success by everyone who attended, and we have already had expressions of interest in when the next event will be. We will certainly host another event further into the year to build on the foundations that were set in this inaugural meeting. It was a great opportunity to bring the region together and ATD are committed to provide ongoing support in this regard.
